If you’re an online shopping fanatic, it’s more than likely that at some stage you’ve received an item that looks nothing like the one you ordered.
And although it is incredibly frustrating – especially after waiting for it to be delivered – on the odd occasion the mishap is so bad it’s funny.
This is precisely what happened to Saoirse Schofield, who thought she’d found a rug for an absolute bargain on Shein.
The 24-year-old from Dublin couldn’t believe her eyes when she received a minuscule version of the rug she ordered for her room after recently moving house.
Opening up on the error, she said: “I knew as soon as the package arrived that something wasn’t right. I was expecting a full side rug that was the same length as a bed.
“Looking at the size of the parcel that arrived and how light it felt when I picked it up, I knew it couldn’t possibly be the right size.
“After opening the package I just burst out laughing. I thought this is ridiculous. I couldn’t believe how small it was.”
After making the move to her new home, Saoirse says she was trying to furnish her new room which was a bit of an odd shape.
She thought she hit the jackpot after finding a rug that seemed to be the perfect fit for her room at just £5.
The graphic design student continued: “My new room is narrow but really long. When I saw this rug online I thought it would be perfect for my room to go along the floor next to my bed.
“In the picture on the website it clearly looks like a full-sized rug as it goes along the edge of the bed in the picture, which is exactly how I wanted it to go in my room.
“I loved the rug as I thought it would break up the wooden floor and add a nice texture to my room. I also loved the neutral colours of it.
“It was so cheap too. I thought it was such a great bargain.
“I ordered it from Shein. I have ordered clothes from them before and they have always been fine, so I thought ordering a rug from there too was safe.
“The measurements of the rug said 120 by 40. I assumed that this was inches judging by the picture.”
But it turns out the rug was measured in centimetres.
“It is tiny. It just looks like a piece of material that has been cut off from the rug. I thought it was going to be about four times bigger than what arrived.
“It was hilarious. My mum said that it was ridiculous and hoped that I hadn’t wasted much money on it.”
As she didn’t spend much on it, Saoirse was able to see the funny side of the situation.
She added: “The piece of material that arrived is really soft and fluffy, so I think I am going to keep it until I can find a rug that actually fits so that my feet are warm when I get out of bed in the morning.
“I also want to keep it because I just find it so funny.
“I think I will wait until the shops are open to buy another rug, so I can make sure I am buying the right thing and don’t receive another mini rug.”
In the future, she says she’ll be more careful when shopping online.
