Mum left in hysterics by daughter’s secret attempt to ‘scam’ the tooth fairy

A nine-year-old girl left her parents in stitches when they unexpectedly found a ‘tooth’ under her pillow – before realising she had been attempting to con the tooth fairy.

Mum Rachel Wojciechowski, from Devon, was making her daughter Iris’ bed when she discovered the odd-looking tooth placed under the pillow.

Knowing little Iris hadn’t lost any teeth recently, Rachel and her husband Daniel, a police officer, confronted their daughter after finding the ‘tooth’ had a strange minty smell.

Iris was forced to confess that she had broken a white Tic Tac mint in half, and even coloured the end red to resemble blood, but was left disappointed when she woke up to find it hadn’t been replaced by a £2 coin.

The parents explained that the tooth fairy is far too clever to be tricked, and left her a chocolate coin in place of the mint instead.

Rachel said: “I went in to make her bed in the morning, lifted up her pillow and noticed this ‘tooth’ underneath.

“At first, I thought it was a tooth because it was the right size and pearly white but then I thought ‘we haven’t had any wobblies’.

“She has a very good sense of humour and is really into believing in the tooth fairy. She normally gets a £2 coin so she was definitely trying her luck.

“I called her up and I held it up and half smiled and she said ‘oh I thought it would have been gone by now’.

“I said it has a lovely smell to it and she says ‘it’s not real mummy because she thought I might think it was’.

“She used a red sharpie to make the colouring; I thought it was really smart of her. I left her a chocolate coin and said it has to be the real thing.”

Rachel shared the hilarious swindle attempt on the Family Lockdown Tips and Ideas Facebook group, where it racked up thousands of comments and likes.

The 44-year-old added: “I didn’t expect the reaction. Within 15 minutes, it had reached 1,000 likes.

“I thought it would only get 100 but everyone found it hilarious. It made us laugh so I wanted to show everyone else.”
